That Grisly Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Haunts Fans
Out of every mature cartoon movies I’ve ever viewed, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the fear-filled conclusion of a graphically gory and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spain-based filmmaker crafted a grim, melancholy , often savage universe that included several minor , forlorn glimmers of hope.
Although The Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from a drive to advance animation even more, the director stated that it was actually an effort to convey a universal, cross-cultural message concerning “the mutual source of all wars.”
That message is expressed via a squad of colorful pastel bears , clearly modeled after a famous series of cuddly figures.
Growing up in a society focused on aggression as well as the military-industrial complex, a lot of the bears are fixated on killing unicorns, because of a holy book that tells the bears they used to be kings of the woods, before the unicorns drove them out.
Others did not entirely bought into the indoctrination, and choose to sample narcotics and mate in the forest.
Unlike their cuddly equivalents, these bright beings display genitals and definite sex drives.
For a particular notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the conflict with unicorns becomes a road toward dominance — and especially to authority over his gentler, kinder brother the character Tubby.
Bluey acts as a tormentor and an apparent antisocial figure , and when fear overcomes his group and claims his comrades one by one, he takes increasingly influence for himself, through ever more bloody, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are suffering their own horror, in the form of a spreading, destructive monster in their woods.
“In the early stages, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker stated. “But then it evolves into a more serious and sorrowful film. And by the end, it’s a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars begins similar to among the quirky films by a legendary filmmaker, that uncover a naughty glee in permitting drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or have intimate relations.
Then it evolves into more akin to a darker film from the same director, featuring progressively visual gore , a tangible link to genuine tragedy of battle.
Ultimately, it’s an outright extreme drama massacre.
The fear that makes the film an ideal spooky-season movie begins much sooner than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted gorehounds, for lovers of extreme cinema who desire to view a movie they haven’t ever viewed until now, and are able to withstand a story which delivers no restraint.
Watch it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and the finale will crawl into your mind and take up residence there.
