Recent Refinery Assault Reveals 'Absolutely No Safe Locations in Russia's Distant Backlines'

Ukraine's UAVs have targeted the Russian Bashneft facility in the city of Ufa, positioned around 1,400 kilometres from Ukraine, resulting in blasts and a fire, per a source in the Ukrainian SBU.

This marks the third Ukrainian security service far-reaching assault in the region in the last month. These strikes demonstrate that there are no safe places in the distant backlines of the Russian state.

Zelenskyy Urges Trump to Facilitate Peace in Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Donald Trump to broker peace in Ukraine during a call on Saturday.

"When a conflict can be ended in a particular zone, then undoubtedly further hostilities can be halted as well, including the conflict with Russia," he stated, praising the US President's "exceptional" Gaza truce proposal and calling for the US president to influence the Russian government into discussions.

Moscow's Strikes Take Lives in the Country

Strikes by Russia on Ukrainian territory killed at least 5 individuals on the weekend and cut power to parts of the south Odesa oblast, per authorities in Ukraine.

Two civilians were killed inside a church in the town when it was hit, per municipal sources.

In Russia's adjacent territory of the Belgorod region, a vehicle operator was killed by a Ukrainian strike, according to municipal sources.

Energy Recovery Efforts in the Capital

Operations continued on the weekend to repair energy infrastructure in Kyiv, after Russian attacks.

Energy had been recovered to more than 800,000 citizens by Saturday and the major power firm stated the primary operations to repair the grid was finished though partial blackouts remained.

Air Defence Actions and UAV Downings

Ukraine's anti-aircraft systems downed or disrupted 54 of 78 total Russian drones sent towards Ukraine overnight, the military reported on Saturday.

Russia's defense officials said it intercepted 42 enemy UAVs from Ukraine over Russian territory.

Cuba Denies Accusations of Sending Soldiers to the War

Havana on the weekend rejected American allegations it has provided military personnel to fight in the Ukraine war, while stating the government "are without exact data about individuals" involved "voluntarily" or "in the military forces of either party".

The foreign ministry in Havana said twenty-six nationals had been convicted to jail sentences ranging from five up to fourteen years for mercenary activity since last September when reports spread of Cuban nationals being deployed to the front in Ukraine.

Surrender Initiative Project Discloses Information on Cuban Involvement

The surrender initiative, a state program that urges enemy combatants to lay down arms, reported in May: "Our information indicates the personal data of one thousand and twenty-eight Cuban nationals who signed contracts with the Russian military in recently."

The government in Havana commented of Cuban nationals who might be engaged: "There is no doubt that none of them have the encouragement, dedication, or authorization of the Cuban state for their actions."
