Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
