Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
