Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
